I had a hard time sleeping last night. I didn’t fall asleep
to about 5 AM because I was so jetlagged and it was kind of hard sleeping alone
without my roommate. My roommate still hadn’t arrived. I didn’t wake up til
3:30 PM. I ended up getting ready and exploring the area in the rain alone. I
wanted to get gelato but they didn’t take credit cards so I would have to take
money out at the ATM. I asked the guy at the hotel where the nearest ATM was. I
ended up finding it and taking money out. It’s weird because it sounds so easy
but everything is a challenge. Like I felt so accomplished and proud of myself
after finding the ATM and getting money out on my own. Afterwards I celebrated
by buying myself my first chocolate gelato.
Afterwards I came back to the hotel
and got ready for dinner. Juila was out for most of the day finishing up what
she wanted to see before she would leave. She’s leaving tomorrow morning.
I found it funny that we have a bidet in our room. A bidet is a french word for pony. Bidets are primarily used to wash and clean the genitalia, perineum, inner buttocks, and anus. They may also be used to clean any other part of the body such as feet. Despite appearing similar to a toilet, bidets once served as a practical way for couples to prepare themselves before sex, as well as to rinse themselves afterwards.
We
had plans of eating dinner at 7:30 PM. I got ready and then chilled downstairs
in the common room to wait for her. I ended up talking with a family that
barely knew English. It was funny because the 2 daughters were 11 and 13. One
was very feminine while the other was very masculine. At first I didn’t know if
she was a boy or girl because she had a very short haircut. It was funny
because the minute I sat down on the couch she came over and sat near me. We
held a broken conversation for a while. The mom came over and knew a little bit
more English to help the girls out. I was reading a magazine and I pointed to a
picture of Beyonce and Jay Z and asked the girls if they knew who it was. They
had no idea but the mother made out to me that the girls loved One Direction. Eventually
Julia showed up and we ate dinner at the hotel. The food was really good but I
didn’t have much of an appetite tonight. At the end of dinner my roommate Marie finally showed up. It was nice finally meeting her. She seems really nice and
talkative which is good. We chatted for a while and she decided she would stay
in because of her flight issues. All of her flights were delayed so she was
exhausted. I ended up going downstairs to the common room with Julia to wait
for Paolo to get off of work. He told us he would drive us into Turin. He would
be dropping us off at Piazza Vitorrio Veneto.
It’s like a huge open courtyard
with a bunch of bars. We started off the night going to this one bar with all
these colorful lights which was cool. I got a glass of wine there.
We moved our
way into another cool bar. I got this drink called Red.
The 3rd bar
we went to we met a bunch of guys. They ended up talking to us for a while and
they took us to this discotheque. A discotheque is like a club. It was so much
fun.
The minute we got there we both got rum and cokes. We danced for hours. It was funny because there were men without shirts on dancing on stage.
and another man dressed as Santa Clause.
At one point I could barely see Julia because of the strobe light. I felt like I was at Secrets again haha.
I met this guy named Raffaele. We stayed at the discotheque til 4 in the morning. We got food at this cart on the way back. We met 2 guys who I could tell were being rude to us because we were Americans. They were chanting McDonald's and at one point I heard them say fucking bitches. Of course I got a diet coke at the end of the night. I was upset to find out that it does not taste the same here at all! Looks like water for the next three weeks!
We got back around 4:30. I stayed up tip 5 talking with Julia while she packed. I'm sad she's leaving. She was so much fun and made me feel at home. I wish she was staying for another week.
It was so weird not being home for the 4th of July. Today July 5th I slept in late because I was up so late. When I woke up, Marie and I explored Nichelino which is where we are staying. We got gelato again. I was finally able to get a hold of my mom which was good. I had to buy an international call card because my phone is being retarded. We ate dinner at the hotel which was delicious and we downed 2 liters of wine. We decided to just chill in tonight and plan what we're going to do the rest of our time here. Tomorrow we plan on exploring Torino and visiting an Egyptian museum and a castle.
